Here is the final version of our music video for the song 'train track tracey' by oats.





Putting the video up on YouTube decreased the quality and also made the video slightly out of sync but these problems could not be avoided.

Digipack and Advert Feedback

After each member in my group had created their digipack and advert, we had to decide which worked best in relation to the video and the bands image. After our discusion we chose Mamoon's advert and my digipack as the groups collective product.


We asked 5 females and 5 males, aged 16-21, to give their opinion on the digipack an advert. we did this by creating another questionnaire which was given after viewing the product. Here are the questions we asked:

1. Do you like the advert and digipack?
2. Do you think the music video, advert and digipack work together?
3. Which magazine would you expect to see the advert in?
4. Would the cover make you want to buy the album?
5. Do the advert and digipack fit the indie genre?
6. State any imporvements that could be made.

Music Video Feedback

To get feedback from our target audience we created a focus group and gave them a questionnaire to fill out once they had viewed the video. Here are the questions we asked them:

1. Did the video hold your attention?

2. Did you like the video?

3. Does the video make you want to buy the song?

4. State any improvements you think could be made.

5. Does this video fit the indie genre?

6. Which  channel would you expect to see this video on? (NME, MTV Rock, Q or Lava TV)

7. Would you watch the video again?

Magazine advert draft

Here is the first draft of my magazine advert. I took into consideration the conventions of Indie/rock magazine adverts and this is what I came up with. To create the ad, I first edited the band image in photoshop by decreasing the saturation and using the curves tool to darken the edges a bit. I also resized the image so it would fit onto about half of an A4 sheet. I then added the text and found a HMV logo to make the advert look legitimate.  

Next up i'm going to get feedback from a selection of people to get some general opinions and see if i need to change anything to improve it.

Experimenting on Photoshop

I decided to play around a bit on photoshop and see what different effects I could use on the covers.

To achieve this I went over each member in a different colour using the brush tool.

Next I set the blending mode to colour which made the image look like this.

I did the same thing to the other band members to complete the image.

CD Cover Mock Ups

Here are a few of the front cover designs I came up with. I edited the images in Photoshop CS5 and then imported them into Indesign to sort out the layout.

I really like the idea of having a picture of the band mid-performance as the front cover as it reinforces their ability to play live. I went with this idea and came up with 2 covers with the band performing. Having shot in a quite unusual but visually engaging location, benefits the picture. It provides a link to the music video and will help people recognise that the two products are related.

Bellow i will discuss the different devices i used in the covers.

 I cropped the picture so that the trees almost frame the band which subsequently draws your eye to the band. The distance of the band and the fact that they are not looking at the camera makes it seem like you are spying on them. I used white text as it contrasted nicely against the background and made it stand out more.

In this second cover, i decided to play around with the saturation and vibrance of the image. I think what i came up with gives the cover a sort of vintage look and makes it seem more 'indie'. I also used black text  which i think looks good but needs an outline to make it readable.

I went in a different direction with my final cover. I found pictures which had enough room for me to cut out each member of the band. I then applied a glow around the edges of each person and placed them all on a black background. I like the double text in grey and white which goes well with the black background.

To help with the layout of my cover, back cover and insert i sketched a rough idea onto cut outs that are the precise measurements for a CD. This will help me to physically see my ideas and make the whole process of making the digipack much quicker.
